General Knowledge about the Mage class
Author:wowgold1000 Date:7/8/2008 Source:http://www.wowgold1000.com

The mage is primarily a ranged damage-oriented support class that has three separate schools of magic available to them: Arcane, Fire, and Frost. The three different forms of magic schools available to the Mage make it a very flexible class to deal damage to almost any type of creature in the game. The Mage also has the strongest multiple target area of effect damaging spells and abilities in the game. Other support functions that a Mage can provide including single target control (Polymorph), and short-term crowd control (Frost Nova/root effects). The Mage class is also the only class that has the ability to conjure food and drink, which saves a great deal of cash for the Mage and his/her friends. The Mage is very highly sought after class for groups, raids, and instance dungeon crawls.
Although the Mage is a very strong group-role class, it makes a very effective character in soloing many same-level quests and creatures on its own. The general rule is:
Any mob whose level appears as green or yellow is safe. You shouldn't be killing grey mobs to level as they offer no experience. Ideally you should focus on green and yellow mobs/quests.
Any mob whose level is orange is killable, but will probably cost you a bit more mana and life than a yellow or green mob.
Any mob whose level is red will probably not be killable by you. It is not a good idea to attack red mobs while soloing.
As for the stats for the mages, it is generally recognized that Intellect and Stamina are the two top priority stats a Mage should focus on.
Intellect impacts your Mages critical strike chance with spells and increases your available mana pool.
Stamina increases your Mages health points; although it is not as important as intellect for leveling be sure you don't neglect this stat otherwise you will be making many trips to the graveyard.
Other important stats to a mage are spell critical rating, spell hit rating, spell penetration, and resilience, together with Spirit. Spell damage will cause an increase in either all spell damage, or the damage of a particular school. Spell critical and hit rating obviously increase your chance to crit or hit with spells which is good for a mage to have because if a spell crits, its more damage for the same amount of mana. Spell penetration lowers your targets resistance by x, which helps with partial resists, such as the ones mages see with fireball. Resilience is a stat new with BC and is a PvP stat.
